Steve Lonegan Files for Senate Seat with over 7000 signatures from 21 counties
June 10 2013

TRENTON – Off to the races, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan filed 7,210 petition signatures today to qualify for the August 13th primary and October 16th general election.

“I am humbled by the volunteer efforts of more than 250 great people from all 21 counties who worked tirelessly starting Tuesday night to help us reach this goal,” Lonegan said.  “It’s the nucleus of a grass-roots movement that will deliver a Republican Senate seat for New Jersey in the first time in more than four decades.”

Lonegan said that Republicans from Tea Party activists to regular party people have united behind his candidacy and that New Jersey will see the greatest grass-roots political campaign in history.
“People are fed up with the radical agenda of Barack Obama and his rubber-stamp supporters and enablers like Cory Booker and the other Democrats filing petitions today,” Lonegan said.  “The support we received this weekend is just the first sign.  There will be many others over the next four months.  I will win this election on October 16th.”

Cicada hype a bust

Ridgewood NJ, This year's brood of cicadas are currently popping up on the east coast -- but not quite with the drama we initially expected.

The Cicada had been predicted to descend on the metro New York area around Memorial day like plague of Biblical proportions but colder weather and heavy rains seem to have keep the massive Cicada invasion in check.

While it is difficult to track cicadas because there was not a lot of research technology available seventeen years ago when the brood two group last came around , the large ugly bug so far seems noticeably absent from this years summer festivities

Ridgewood NJ, At $2 million, the Christie administration's proposed school voucher program is a very small piece of the $12.4 billion that the state projects it will spend on public education next year., but Democrats looking to support the all powerfully teachers union are looking to put an end to educational opportunity for the poor.

Democrats lead by State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen), the Democratic majority leader, this weekend repeated earlier comments that she was convinced the Democrats would put an end to the pilot, which would provide $10,000 vouchers for low-income students to attend qualifying schools, public or private. (http://www.njspotlight.com/stories/13/06/03/christie-s-proposed-school-voucher-program-at-latest-crossroads/ )

State Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen), the chairman of the budget committee, last month also said much of the same thing: there were too many Democrats against it being part of an appropriations bill -- if any law at all. ( http://www.njspotlight.com/stories/13/06/03/christie-s-proposed-school-voucher-program-at-latest-crossroads/ )

Gov, Christie and pro school choice vocatives have been pressing for vouchers since he first ran for governor, and it is the one piece of his education agenda still unfulfilled.. School choice advocates have been looking to break the monopoly grip on public education and have made some inroads but the NJEA controls to many democrat votes and continues to wage a war on the poor denying them educational opportunities afforded the wealthy and middle classes. State Democrats seem all to happy to allow where on lives to determine the quality of eduction a child receives .

Ridgewood NJ, According to his office NJ Sen. Frank Lautenberg died this morning of viral pneumonia . He was 89.

Sen. Lautenberg was the oldest member of the Senate, and had struggled with health problems since late last year, when he missed several weeks of votes because of what he said was flu and bronchitis.

The death of Lautenberg, a Democrat who was the longest-serving senator in New Jersey history, creates a vacancy that Governor Christie, a Republican, will fill. Lautenberg announced in February that he would not seek re-election in 2014, but hoped to complete a series of "accomplishments" before his term ended.

Ridgewood NJ,  Gold edged up on Monday in over seas trading after posting its biggest weekly gain since late August on safe-haven buying driven by worries the United States could return to recession if Congress fails to reach a deficit-reduction deal, European debt crisis contagion, looming US tax increases and an anti business regulator environment.

Friday Gold added $3.03 an ounce to $1,733.94 putting the barbarous relic near a 3-week high around $1,738 Friday. U.S. gold for December rose $3.30 an ounce to $1,734.20.

Senate Democrat Bob Menendez stopped by the Ridgewood Train station Monday morning for a photo op to pitch the Federal Transit Bill

Senate Democrat Bob Menendez stopped by the Ridgewood Train station Monday morning for a photo op to pitch the Federal Transit Bill

(RIDGEWOOD-NJ) Senate Democrat Bob Menendez stopped by the Ridgewood Train station Monday morning for a photo op to pitch the Federal Transit Bill that will give New Jersey $63M in federal transit funding if it's passed by the Senate.

The bill also contains a number of programs the Senator championed including:

A New $20 Million Transit Oriented Development Planning Program.  The $20 million program will help communities create more livable communities by planning new development around new transit hubs.  The provision is based on similar language in Senator Menendez’s Livable communities Act, and in New Jersey would work in tandem with the state’s Transit Village program.

Increased Funding for the National Transit Institute at Rutgers (NTI) [$5million]. NTI provides training, education, and clearinghouse services in support of public transportation and quality of life for the entire nation.  In recent years this important national program has seen its funding slashed, despite the increased need for training in the face of an ongoing wave of retirements in the industry. This bill will raise NTI’s funding to $5 million per year from $3.8 million.

Increased Clean Fuels Program Funding [From $51.5M to $65M].  This competitive program for clean fuel transit vehicles and for refueling infrastructure will help agencies switch from dirty, expensive fuels, to cleaner, cheaper fuels.  This will help improve air quality and allow transit agencies to untether themselves from volatile oil prices.

Increased Funding for Transportation for Seniors and the Disabled [NJ Funding Goes From $6.5 M to $7.8 M]. With demand for senior transportation increasing, the bill is able to meet that demand with increased resources.

Streamlined and Reformed “New Starts” Process. The bill streamlines the process for the federal approval of new projects and allows projects designed to increase capacity on existing systems rather than just allow new systems or new lines.  Older systems such as New Jersey’s that are at capacity could, for instance, use the program to add a new station, add another track, or purchase bigger train cars.

Menendez recently found himself out of party good graces when he became the first Democrat to reject one of President Obama's judicial appointments. He first claimed  Judge Patty Shwartz, whom Obama nominated in October, was not qualified to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia.Later Menendez reversed himself and said he would support the nomination.

Menendez was also recently jilted when West New York Mayor Dr. Felix Roque, a Hudson County Democrat, endorsed Republican State Sen. Kyrillos for the U.S. Senate seat held by Robert Menendez, also a fellow North Bergen Democrat.

Sources claim Sen Menendez  was invited to Ridgewood by his friend Councilmen Paul Aronsohn . The funny thing is that no media sources except for the "Patch" also a friend of the Councilmen covered the event.

Observes found it odd the the Senator would use the controversial Ridgewood Train station as a back drop to promote more transit spending when the station has come under so much criticism for the $800,000 gutters, $2million dollars for the roof and ADA compliant elevators to nowhere .
